Letter FWD:  George Curry

Dear All

Here are some points of info I could find on Good Shepherd.

1. Adoptee Zion Mitchell did a documentary and in his research he found he was in Nursery 1: Called ‘The Sisters Of The Good Shepherd’ in Vinh Long.
His email is: zionmitchell@hotmail.com

2. Susan McDonald said she had a video on this place. susanmcdo@aol.com

I served with the 114th in 64, 65 and 66 and knew the Nun’s well. As you may guess years have passed and from a boy of 19 then to a older man in his 60’s now.

I will have some booklets about the Good Shepherds in Vietnam, who had a large orphanage in Vinh Long. Young adults who were cared for initially by the Good Shepherd Sisters in Vinh Long could contact me about this book. It is full of good history. Also includes a section about Sr. Ursula, who died in the C5A) were cared for initially by the Good Shepherd

I’m 99% sure that the Good Shepherd Orphanage of 1975 is not the same as the Good Shepherd Orphanage mentioned in the Children of Peace International description.  The Good Shepherd Orphanage that COPI mentions is named after the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sandy, UT who raised money for the “separate village for older children.”  Everyone else in the world refers to that orphanage as Tam Binh Orphanage (or Mam Non #2) in the Thu Duc district of HCMC.  I don’t think it has any relation to the Good Shepherd Orphanage in 1974.  (FWIW, I have seen mention of a Good Shepherd Orphanage located in Vinh Long in 1974, but not one in Saigon proper.  I don’t know if the one in Vinh Long still exists.)
