Tony Huynh – Engineer (Archive)

The best thing I think about being Vietnamese or coming from such a diverse background is the FOOD!

Name:

Tony Huynh – Huynh Hai Bang

History:

Second Generation Chinese-Vietnamese, aged 24 years old. Raised in Brisbane and now resides in Sydney. Parents arrived in Australia as ‘boat’ refugees. Have not visited Vietnam yet.

Occupation:

Software Engineer at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) www.csc.com/au/
Also an Information Technology Consultant to www.hoopdreamz.com.au

On Being Vietnamese:

I, myself am not 100% Vietnamese. I’m actually only 1/8 Vietnamese. The rest of me is Chinese. Although my family is not fully Vietnamese, we culturally identify ourselves as Vietnamese as well as Chinese (very similar Cultures as you may know). The best thing I think about being Vietnamese or coming from such a diverse background is the FOOD! Well not only the food but the rich culture, history and traditions we all share together as a people.

Happy To Have Achieved:

  1. Being involved in a partnership business in Web Development from 1999-2001. Although it wasn’t a financial success, it has given me the strength, knowledge and experience of running a business/organisation.
  2. My university degree – Bachelor of Information Technology.
  3. Recently buying a house in Sydney.

Dreams:

Wider acceptance and understanding of all cultures in Australia.

Vietnamese Mentors/Inspirations?

I don’t think I have a favourite. Although my year 10 Maths teacher comes close because of his wry sense of humour…I think humour breaks down barriers…
